Good news for Long Island and Long Islanders as they leave others green with envy, quite literally in fact.
Despite reports of tainted spinach, it seems, according to reports that Long Island spinach is safe to eat. At least that’s the announcement from the Long Island Farm Bureau make on September 26th.
Officials note and emphasize that the local (Long Island) food supply is considered safe and grown in accordance to the best farming techniques. In fact, according to industry experts, the state-of-the-art farming procedures adhered to by Long Island farmers appears to have isolated them from the catastrophic economic brunt brought about as a result of the panic caused due to contaminated spinach from three counties in California.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control, it has been determined that only three counties in California were the core base of E-coli contaminated spinach. And, they add that those who want to enjoy their dark leafy greens can buy and enjoy local LI home-grown spinach with confidence and peace of mind.
Officials further point out that Long Island spinach bears the logo, “Grown on Long Island” making it easy to pick out in a bunch. And they add that by buying locally grown spinach, consumers are not only putting safe produce on their table but also supporting the local vegetable growers and local economy.
