Even in the harried hustle and bustle of everyday life, most of us, thanks to the invention of a plethora of electronic devises, most of us can, in the famous words of Mr. Leary “ tune in, turn on, and drop out”…and without the aid of illegal substances.
But, soon, our escape devises may be illegal and band too. In fact, talking on your cell or listening to your iPod may result in a fine of at lest $100.
This, in response (by officials), to at least three pedestrian fatalities, caused by their digital distractions. In fact, they were cited as walking into oncoming traffic, despite warnings, which they could not hear.
So, now authorities are petitioning for a ban on items such as Blackberry devices and video games while crossing the street, noting that it’s the government’s responsibility to protect its citizens. And, they even went as far as noting the situation as an increasingly dangerous and “out of control” crisis.
They suggest that modern society all too often walks around ensconced in their own world as they focus on cell phone calls, text messages, music, etc., and some forget to take note to the surroundings and world around them.
They add, that the proposed measure is not meant to intrude on anyone’s privacy or enjoyment but to get them to shift focus especially when walking along busy streets where the potential for danger is everywhere.
