You would think that putting criminals behind bars would deter them from engaging in crimes. But, apparently that’s not the case. In fact, recently Nassau County officers intercepted a special pastry delivery to the jail in East Meadow that contained some cannibus-containing cannolis.
Arrested was Rocco Bove a 24 year-old resident of Westbury who was charged with five counts of first and second degree promoting prison contraband and unlawful possession of marijuana. Bove pleaded not guilty and faces 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison if convicted.
According to police, Bove tried to package pot by stuffing it in a plastic bag along with some rolling papers, matches and a flint pad and trying to “sneak” it into the prison via a bakery box. And, the less than half-gram of pot and other paraprhenalia were hidden within six cannolis.
Bove who did not have any prior criminal record, note police, was confident that he wouldn’t get caught. He was arrested at his home following a routine search of the box and its contents.
And, officers go on to say that it was not just the marijuana that led to the search. According to authorities, inmates are not allowed to receive pastries or any other packages either. In fact, delivering packages to inmates is a violation and the inclusion of contraband simply raises the crime.
