With the exception of a few, who doesn’t love the smell and taste of a Starbuck’s latte or spiced chai tea. Add the ambiance of the atmosphere and you’ve got yet another reason to love coffee and croissants among the many other offerings available.

And, now yet another reason to love this java giant. According to reports, Starbucks has joined other mega-chains such as A & W to trim trans pates from their tasty treats.

The movement will be kicked off in Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Portland, Oregon and in Canada, and starting with backed goods.

The company anticipated a total switchover within the U.S. over the next two years, and a sign noting the change(s) will displayed in pastry cases once the conversion is complete.

In keeping with the times and “trends”, A & W has announces that it too will be offering an upgraded menu giving consumers a choice items featuring reduced or zero trans fats.

The restaurant has already eliminated trans fats from its fries, hash browns and some of its sandwiches. Plus, it has reduced the amount of trans fats in its onion rings, chicken strips and breakfast sandwiches.

This in response to consumers new and improved tastes and studied that suggest that 22 percent of the average individual’s trans fat consumption comes from foods consumed outside the home, typically in fast-food establishments.

And, just this past December, 2006 New York City spearheaded an move toward more health conscious eating by becoming the first city to ban artificial trans fats at its restaurants and requiring them to eliminate trans fats from their food by 2008.
