It’s “back to school” time, and that means a new year with lots of new “tough” challenges for both children and their parents; and we’re not just talking about the curriculum. With each year your child embarks on a journey to new people, new adventures, and new life lessons. And, you are likely going to be faced with some new and challenging “dilemmas” and questions. Here’s how to “tackle” a common social scenario.
· Your child didn’t get invited to a classmate’s or “friend’s” party and wants to know why: Explain that it’s not always easy to invite everyone we like or want to. And, don’t forget to mention that parents may be on a budget or have limited space, which means a limited amount of guests. For older children, you can take the opportunity to explain that sometime social circle “change” and that sometimes you’re part of the “in” crowd, and sometimes your not.
