Most of us entered college and/or “the real world” with hopes and dreams based on our inner passions and desires and where we saw ourselves by the time we hit 30 or 40. Well, as that time approaches, many of us find that it wasn’t quite as easy as we deemed to follow our dreams. And, many of us may still even be trying to find our niche. Still, somewhere deep down inside we all have that burning passion that draws us to our “true calling”. Yet, most of us are “comfortably numb” is the job/position we have and that helps pay the bills. And, most of us are not about to give up our security to chance following our dreams
But, what about that “something” that we excel at that has nothing to do with our job. Experts suggest taking action. After all, no guts no glory. And, you can always start taking your passion and creativity to a new level on a part-time basis. Yet, getting started is often the hardest start. Here are a few pointers to point you in the right direction.
Take A Breather: Filling your days and nights with endless obligations work in contrast to the way the brain was designed. In fact, according to experts, in order for it to function properly, you brain needs some downtime. You’ll at least need to slow down enough for your mind to be creative and make connections.
Think Outside The Box: Get your mental juices flowing by exercising your mind. Stretch your imagination, creativity and ability to think on your feet by focusing on an everyday item or task and coming up with a few variable ways to complete it or use it.
Develop A “One-Track” Mind: Stay on track by taking at least ONE step each day toward your goal. Even baby steps are essential, in the long run, to realizing your dream and achieving your goals.
Live And Learn: Just because you may make some mistakes, bad judgement calls or experience some “failure” and frustration up front, doesn’t mean you must or should give up. In fact, it’s likely an incentive to work harder. Shift your focus on what you can improve and how and just “do it”. Remember, there’s a lot of truth to the motto: “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again”.
Expand Your Options: While most of us like to set a finite timeline to achieve our goals, experts suggest that the truth of the matter is that most goals take longer to realize that we anticipated or expected. Learn to keep yourself open and flexible, as if money and specific deadlines were no object. They suggest that you should have an outlined time frame but never let time stand in the way of your realizing your dreams.
