So, you’re in your Golden Years, well, ladies it’s time to sparkle like the rare gem you are. Being a grandmother is just another opportunity to set an example for your children and now their children and really live up to your title of being a “GRAND” parent.
If looking your best has become a chore than you desperately need a new beauty routine. After all, your beauty routine should be anything BUT a “dreaded” routine.
Your face is the last step to perfecting your look, your image, and enhancing your natural beauty before walking out the door. That’s one thing that hasn’t changed over the years. And, it’s a clear (or not so clear) indication of how you feel about yourself.
What has (most probably) changed however (to a certain degree) is the texture of your skin. The products, colors, and applications you use should positively reflect that change. Here are just a few suggestions to help you make a “GRAND” exit or entrance.
Over 50 Don’ts: · Don’t use “bold” colors and shades or contrasting tones, they are aging. · Don’t wear “pearly”, “shimmery” or “glittery” makeup. It has a tendency to exaggerate the texture of your skin and accentuate fine lines and wrinkles. · Don’t opt for products aimed at oily skin (chances are with age your skin actually needs oil and moisture); they have a tendency to look pasty and dry. · Don’t highlight cheekbones with blusher. Our faces generally get “thinner” with age and applying blush to the bones enhances that in an unflattering way.
Over 50 Do’s · Do select natural, rich tones that are moisture based. Organic products as well as cream blushers, shadows and foundations are excellent choices. Keep it simply and subtle with light rose or coral toned moisturizing lipsticks and glosses. · Do use lip liner sparingly, if at all. Remember to apply delicately on the lips and NOT over them our outside your natural lip line. · Do “blush”…but smile and apply it to the apples of your cheeks instead of your cheekbones. The look should be sun-kisses, not scrawny. · Do “bat your long lashes”…but apply mascara to upper lashes only. The same holds true for eyeliner. Makeup applies to the lower eye area has a tendency to head south and gives often makes your brown (or blue or green) eyes black. · Do “conceal” your “faults” if you are so inclined, but use foundation and concealer sparingly; only where you really need it including: red spots, the sides of your noses, or for under your eyes. Also consider blending with a natural moisturizer before applying.
