We’ve all been in a position where we wanted to make a comment, albeit to a positive one and to a friend, but held our tongue for fear of potentially “offending”. You know, you may think your friend is pg, but don’t want to insult her since, if she’s not, she may take it as an affront to her weight. And, even if you have a friend that’s lost weight you may want to hold back on the kudos. After all, telling her she looks great, may sound “great” to you, but she may be insulted, as if you are suggesting she looked “less than great” before. Still, not noticing could be equally as “offensive”.
Just remember, timing is everything, so wait until she either brings up the topic or until you both are alone. And, don’t forget to keep it simple by saying something like, you look “lovely” or “great” without bringing up the pounds or how proud she must feel “finally” shedding the extra weight. This will only give your compliment a negative spin and may even can even cause your relationship to spin out of control.
