From babymoons, giving mom and dad-to-be a chance to get away and relax before baby arrives on the scene to push presents, the gift given to mom for carrying the precious bundle or joy for 9 months and successfully pushing it out, pregnancies are seemingly becoming not only “trendy”, but are also taking a luxurious twist.
Moms-to-be are encouraged to pamper themselves and are offered everything from private personal trainers, and in-home massages, to belly “facials” to keep them happy, comfortable, and stress-free.
According to experts, luxury pregnancies, frequently result in luxury births and “designer” babies, with little ones costing mom and dad an average $10,600 (extra) in the first year alone. And, some soon-to-be moms spend that much, if not more, note officials, on their pregnancies.
Experts add, that with most getting married a little later in life, and/or waiting longer (than past generations) to start a family, many have more better jobs and better incomes. And, many of them are influenced by celebrity moms and are trying to keep up with them as well.
Plus, with more and more couples having fewer children, they have more money to spend on themselves. And, say experts, let’s not forget that many moms and dads-to-be are also leaving the lap of “luxury”, aka, friends and family, so they have a much smaller support system, and many of these services are serving as a replacement for what friend and family use to pitch in to do.
One such service is a personal baby concierge, that trusted person who can cater to your cravings in the middle on the night, especially when you hubby is in a deep sleep or away on business. Other baby planning pros specialize in helping parents plan for their dream nursery, getting you in touch with the most reputable, after-birth pros, such as a baby photography, and or booking your weekly prenatal exercise classes, yoga classes or massages. Still others can help you negotiate you maternity leave at work, explain your medical coverage, hospital bills and expenses and help you find the best doulas, mid-wives and lactation consultants.
And, according to experts the list can go on once baby arrives. From a personal chef to prepare healthy meals while you focus on baby to personal cooking instructors to teach you about making easy, healthy meals for you and your family, and that will help you drop the baby weight to those who deliver pre-cooked meals directly to you home, it’s becoming easier and easier for parents to pamper themselves. But, experts suggest keeping track of how much this life of leisure and luxury is costing you. They remind new parents that babies, without all the extras can cost a lot and that childcare today can run just as much as a college educations. So, while it’s okay to splurge, it’s equally as important to save.
