Re: Did we know Uggs were made in CHINA?
There is a city in China called "America". So you can buy something with the tag "Made in America" and it was actually made in China.
With over 1.5 billion people in China, why would you assume they all employee children in a sweat shop environment? Labor in the U.S. is extremely expensive for many reasons. Labor and products are cheaper from other countries because they don't have as many lawsuits, labor unions, laws and constraints. So as much as we want to blame other countries for selling products cheaper, don't we as a country have a liability to tax exports at a higher rate if we want to encourage people to buy "American"?

nope, she gets all of her stuff here. how do i know? i have gone with her. she is a friend of mine. i told her about this thread and she was VERY offended.
eta: she doesnt charge $100 a pillow either. she doesnt rape people for their money, like some other shops like Red Pearl does. she too is poor and just tryingt o feed her family. id rather support people like her than some child labor overseas.
What would she be offended by?
She can't be too poor if she can still keep her boutique open.
BTW, how long has it been open?
And not every factory in China, India, Vietnam, etc. employees children.
she was just offended that you suggested (or "would put money on") that her produts were not from america and from asia instead. i can quote the post if youd like.:

I'd bet money that a lot of the goods you think are made in Brooklyn are in fact imports from India, Vietnam and other countries in Asia.
she said if you had any questions whatsoever to feel free to call her and she would explain to you everything. she said she would be more than happy for you to come to the shop and eatch her sew (and yes, all of her fabrics are american made)

You are taking this way too personally.
As for my statement:

It was a general statement in regards to the goods you buy, not what Challengher sells. If you reread our posts, you'll see that Challengher had never been mentioned prior to that statement.
I must say, you're becoming very childish in regards to this conversation. You can't seem to stick to the facts of this debate and keep taking every statement as a personal attack.
May I ask why you boycott products made in China?

There's more involved than rent when owning a store...which I'm sure you're well aware of since you worked in one.

No, I was never trying to say anybody was lying.
What I was trying to say was that it's nearly impossible for the average consumer to buy all American Made products no matter where they live! Not only are American Made products hard to find, they tend to be very expensive. Plain and simple, labor is just too darn expensive in this country.
Where are your linens manufactured? Dinnerware? Flatware? What about your undergarments? Socks? Denim? Your pillows? Blankets? Your electronics/appliances? DVDs/CDs? Brushes/Combs?
Is that all made in America as well?
I can't think of one housewares company that still makes stuff in the USA- I work for a high end electrics company and all my stuff in made in China
and it is NOT made by childern
We inspect every factory and I know for a fact that most major retailers do also- I wont say child labor doesn't exsist in China- but most major American companies wont buy from people who supprt child labor

Re: Did we know Uggs were made in CHINA?
i am sorry if you think i have become childish in htis debate... not sure exactly why.
like i said, my main point is that if you want to buy america you totally can. and for some reason you dont like that i said that or whatever and keep trying to say that it ISN'T possible. i dont exactly understand why. its ok though. let bygones by bygones. if i choose to buy american made, that is my choice.
as to the reason i boycott things made in china.... gosh, there are so many. my top 2 would be: 1. i believe in supporting small business in america. (my dad works for the union and always instilled in us to buy america... no wal mart shopping, etc) and 2. until china stops their inhumane disgusting fur trade i wont support them as a country. (i know this argument can be used against me and tell me how americans have fur farms etc... but from what i have seen china is the worst by far)
beth.... that is very good to know :)

Mine aren't... they are the ones made from Australia. The tip of my boots aren't as boxy as the other ones, more rounded and narrow at the front.
dh bought then for me, and he refused to buy the pair made in china! (not sure why...)

Re: Did we know Uggs were made in CHINA?
I agree that while the garments may have been produced in America, the textiles needed to make them probably were not. Sometimes you can see the word CHINA stamped very small on a zipper. And the fabrics are probably woven somewhere out of the country. Even if you buy the fabric in the US -- it probably wasn't woven here.
No matter how you look at it I think it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a garment that was from start to finish (from sheering the sheep to tagging it and putting it on the rack) made in the USA. The sewing machines, the steamers, laundering process and the machines that use them----so much is made overseas. So it is nice to support local artists, but you can't say that a garment is 100% produced in America and with American products, because that's pretty much impossible IMO.
