Does anyone plan on speaking to their students about Virg Tech?

Does anyone plan on speaking to their students about Virg Tech?
I was thinking about speaking to them about it from the angle of if you ever hear that anyone wants to do something distructive to themselves or to others don't be afraid to speak up!
Thoughts on this???

I don't plan on it....I teach 2nd and don't feel that it is appropriate to discuss it.

I teach 6th-8th and I waited until they brought it up (which they did in about 2 seconds). We talked about how when you have issues that you feel you can't work through - you need to talk to someone that you can trust. I reminded them that I am always there for them if they need someone to talk to.

I have 4th graders....we discussed what questions they had and I brought up respecting life and others' lives. How nothing in life is ever so bad that you dont have anyone to turn to.
Then they started talking about how theyve personally had connections to shootings or hearing gunshots ( I work in a very gang-heavy district upstate)
It was cathartic for them by the end of it- just to have someone listen to them.

i teach hs ss so i thought it was 100% necessary to talk about it - we spoke about it yesterday and today in each of my classes for a few minutes

We had a moment of silence today at noon. First grade was in the cafeteria and I dont think they understood what was going on.
