we are having this same debate

we have a 7 year old male- who is an alpha male for sure

so we have decided to get a girl kitten

we think he will do better with a female over another male and he is so attached to me- we are hoping the female kitten will be attached to my DH

Beth, my vet advised getting the same sex and age. I had a male and got another male and they get on really well (too well sometimesChat Icon ). There was a breaking-in period but it only took a week. One is definitely more dominant and takes a swipe at the other every now again, but they live together in harmony for the most part.

Re: Multiple Cat Owners

I don't know which is better I think it's a personality thing.

I use to have 3 females and one male and two of the females use to fight all the time .

Now i have two females and a male and the male hates the one female he's always beating her up and picking on her. he's very jealous if you call her name he comes running.

don't know if it's because she was the first one we got after him we had him 2 years before we got her. But he doen't bother the other cat at all we got her 4 years after we had him.

Sorry, Hope I'm not confusing you more.
