teacher or bouncer?
so today i had a workshop in the school that i work in for the first few hours of the day.all the teachers on my grade went, so we all had subs.
about two hours in i get a phone call from the principal to immediately report back to my room. apparently, there was a huge fight and one of my nine year old students went home. got up, left the classroom, left the school building and went home.
long story short, just before that there was a brawl in my room. the sub just watched it all happen... what goes on?
the saddest part is that im in a decent neighborhood. i can only imagine what goes on in some other areas...

I think it's the time of year. Everyone's nerves are shot, the kids have had it, it's just time to end already!

Subbing is really hard...I have done it myself BUT some of the subs they hire in my building are horrible! I had one a few months ago watch while two girls punched each other and then had the nerve to ask me to write the incident report...I told him off!

Re: teacher or bouncer?
Its common place in my school...subs that are good get snatched up by "better buildings" and we (in the inner city) get the shi!!y ones
It is the end of the year and I thik teachers and kids are on their last nerve
Its this time of the year that makes me want to petition to shrink the school year
If I didnt need to deal with behavior issues, I could still teach everything I needed to

Re: teacher or bouncer?
it is hard and I am a sub (leave replacement) and have difficulty even with the kids I have been with since March. I found myself this week yelling at kids who just don't listen and throw the normal routine out the window. You would "think" by June they know the deal!
I think everyone is itching to get out!

Re: teacher or bouncer?
It's very hard to get subs especially at this time of year. I teach in a HS and we have a lot of older people as subs who the kids walk all over.
The heat is getting to everyone. I had a kid of Friday punching a locker for no reason other than he didn't like another kid. I had to calm him down.

unfortunatly, it happens in all schools... the good and the bad. It is so difficult to be a sub.
