Open Enrollment and Insurance Question

Open Enrollment is coming up in my company - just wondering what the procedure is and should you decide now which insurance the baby is going to be under before he/she is born? Do you have to notify the insurance company and let them know you are expecting - and to make sure the baby is covered after the birth?

the hosptial packet i got said to notify them of your due date becuase if the hospital bills the insurance and they have no record of this they might kick back. when the baby is born he/she will be added.

we just changed ours last week and its starts 1/1/06 i give birth on 1/17/06 so i will need to notify them right away just incase i go early.

Yes, you should know which insurance company the baby should be on. I would look over both insurance company policies about labor and delivery and for the baby... You should definately make sure if you have to notify them or your doctor's office notify's them.. You don't want to be caught with any unexpected bills because it will be expensive otherwise. (Remember there are 4 bills-one for the doc, one for anesthesia if you have any, and one for the hospital for you and one for the baby)

I have Oxford. I went on my husbands plan before I became pregnant. When I did become pregnant I knew I need to notify them, My doctors office already had and I had an authorization number for my entire pregnancy. It covers the baby for 30 days after the baby is born. Within that timeframe is when JAcob was added on. I had to notify them also within 48 hours of the baby's birth.

It is now 6 weeks later and everything has been paid for... We only had to pay $100 ded. and for the tv and phone.

I would also make sure that the hospital in which you are delivering takes your insurance. A friend of mine didn't check and they were stuck with a nice bill...

Your OB should call the company and take care of it for you, I know mine does.
