Re: Tips for curling my own hair
I blow dry my hair the night before that way it isnt too soft when I curl it with the curling iron.
I spray each piece with a curl setter and hairspray. I find that not straighteniong my hair and leaving the natural wave makes my curls last longer...
A trick I also learned,,,when I am done curling my hair with the iron, I put a diffuser on my blow dryer and diffuse the curls with the cold air. It seems to lock in the curl as well...

Check out this discussion from 06 LIW. http://www.liweddings.com/chat/topic.aspx?ID=315731&Highlight=
I used these instructions on my wedding day (pic in my profile) and they worked! I bought the Matrix Flix Trix and the hairspray. My hair stayed curly for 2 days.
Instructions from jacque:
Ok, so first of all you have to start with straight hair. (if you have curly, you need to straighten it first), then you will use a 1" curling iron. You take a small section of your hair, put some Matrix Flix Trix(sp) or any other pomade that is not gooey, one or two spritzes of Paul Mitchell Freeze and shine super spray. Now you are ready to actually curl the piece. DO NOT clamp your hair and roll it up. Take the curling iron and place it at the root of the section and wind the hair with your other hand from root to tip around the barrell, this is the KEY to getting the waves. After all of it was curled I put a little more pomade in my hands and tousled a little bit... Finish with some shine spray.

Redken makes a product called spray starch that is activated by heat - it works really well

Re: Tips for curling my own hair
like I said in your other post, I put my hair up in a high ponytail and curl pieces, when I take it out I just have to re-curl a section or two in front because it is layered. It is very fast.
