Anyone ever taken Amtrak to Florida??

DH and I have a wedding we want to go to in September. Only thing is, he won't fly (scared), We can't drive like we normally do( I'll be 30 weeks preggo), I won't fly alone (even if he were to drive or me even go to the wedding solo, I am too scared) So our final and best option is Amtrak!!

So my question is...do I want regular coach seating, which in the pic looks roomy, but no private bathroom..would cost us $399 for both round trip....meals not included.

or

Get the roomette, which looks super small, but private and private potty, which at 30 wks pregnant, would probably be more comfy,beds, electric outlets for portable dvd player and laptop, also our luggage will stay with us in room, instead of having to be checked....this is $769 for both round trip...meals included.

Which would you go for?? Would you spend the extra $370 for comfort of basically a private potty..keeping in mind how pg I'll be!! Thanks!!

Honestly - I would try and convince my DH to fly. Friends of mine took a cruise out of FLorida and took Amtrack down b/c her DH was scared to fly - they paid more money for the roomette with the beds and were miserable - they said it was very uncomfortable and unbearable being on the train for that long (21 hours). It also seems pretty expensive to me. Sorry, JMO.

I tookl Amtrack to Florida about 9 yrs ago...but only because I was staying in Fl for 12 wks. I prefer flying, but the train wasn't horrible, it does beat driving the whole way

If you have to go to the wedding and have to take the train, I would probably go for the regular seats and spend time in the dining car to stretch. $370 is a lot of money for not that much more space. I would only consider it for a longer trip - I wouldn't go for a long weekend and spend most of it on the train.

Thanks for your opinions. Mrswask...I wish I could get him to fly. I have been trying for years and years. Its just not happening and I don't want to force him. I am thinking the coach will work better, just so I can get up amd walk up and down the aisle whenever, instead of being stuck in a room. We'll see what DH says when I show him all the info. Thanks gals!!!

I just took this in April. We had a VERY small room w/ 2 twin beds basically -- it's 2 seats facing eachother during the day and then they turn your bed down at night- I had the top bunk and didn't sleep at all. I would definitely get the room b/c the last thing you want to be doing is walking down however far each time you have to use the bathroom- the train can be really rickety at times... JMO! HTH!
