Last year Bobby Abreu hurt himself. A-rod just had a hammy pull a week ago and decided not to participate in the HR derby but to play in the All Star game. Barry Bonds also did not participate.
More and more players are not participating because it messes them up for the rest of the season. It's very strenuous and you risk injury.
most of the guys who participated are not super star hitters..good hitters but not like Bonds or A-Rod..
