Re: Salary
I think no matter how much some people make, they will always have money problems. You have to be good with money no matter how much you make. For instance, we have friends that make more than us and are in a huge amount of debt. DH and I have a lot in savings. Sometimes its not how much you make, its how you spend it.

Re: Salary
i don't think someone decides to go into teaching to "get rich". for working only 180 days a year, teachers get paid a decent salary.

Re: Salary
I went from accounting to teaching. My first year teaching my salary was about half of what I made in accounting. Honestly, we are doing better than we were before. Sometimes, I think the more you have, the more you spend (and on unnecessary stuff)!!

Re: Salary
I am not a teacher to make a 6 figure salary in the early part of my career...however, I do make decent money - not great but decent. We don't live like a king and queen but we are able to live on our salaries just fine.

I agree. If the pay is a concern you do have a lot of time off in the summer, you can always look into employment for then, or coach, supervise, etc for extra money.

Re: Salary
A teaching salary all depends on what you want out of it. You can get your +60 or 75 credits and make the most you can and chaperone and tutor and etc. There are definitely ways to supplement your income.

ITA. I own a home and am raising a child on one teacher's salary. I am by no means wealthy, but I hold my own.
