Need advice: Possible new job and Preggo *** UPDATE***

UPDATE:
I wound up sending them an email and spoke about plans and eagerness to still work for them now and after. I have not heard anything yet. So hopefully I will still meet with them as planned when I move down and start immediately.

Re: Need advice: Possible new job and Preggo

I would definitely tell them NOW. I was just on a hiring committee and someone told us she was 6 months PG and was upfront, and said she planned on taking the minimum time and returing. Long story short, she was hired, and they are working around her being out for the maternity leave.

If you do keep it secret, if I were them I would be so angry that you weren't upfront that I wouldn't hire you anyway.

ETA: I would even go so far as to tell them your plans for which daycare facility so that they won't assume that you may work, then quit once you have the baby.

ITA. I think honesty is the best policy in this situation especially since you will be 6 months along. Sounds like a great opportunity.

Re: Need advice: Possible new job and Preggo

thank you for some replies. I left if with the employer, I will see you in a few months. Should I call them?

What should I say?
Oh, I forgot to tell you, I'm pregnant?!

I don't want to be judged by that fact, that is why I did not want to tell them until they got a chance to meet me prior.

I would call or email and say that you are PG, just finished your first trimester (most people don't tell employers until after that anyway in case there are complications), and are due whenever...And are very much still interested in the position, but wanted to be upfront about the fact that you will be taking the minimum amount of time off and plan to return to the position as soon as possible (and I would add have a daycare situation planned already). Yes, you run the risk of them judging you by being PG, but if you don't, you run the risk of being judged by not being upfront.

Re: Need advice: Possible new job and Preggo

I just had this experience. I started a new job while pg and disclosed my pregnancy during the interview process.

I didn't want to mislead or waste anyone's time (including my own). I want to be at this position for a long time, and at the very least, with this employer, so I wanted to be above-board and have a good, honest relationship from the start.

I think telling at the point you have an offer is a good policy. I spoke up earlier, but I was also in my 2nd trimester, showing, and had worked with my boss in another capacity, so I think she knew anyway. It sounds like you have an offer, so I would say something now. Good luck!
