Need advice--how would you handle this?

Ok, so I'm brand new to fifth grade.

Today, as we were leaving, I picked up some crumpled up post-it notes from the floor. Two were notes that had been passed asking "who do you like", "will you be my girlfriend", etc.

My question is, how would you handle this? I know exactly who the two perpetrators are.

are you upset because they were passing notes, or because of the content of the notes?

the content is totally developmentally where 5th gradres are.... they're starting to go through puberty and actualyl start to notice the opposite sex. i think it sounds harmless right now, but you know the kids, so watch it and see if it becomes a problem.

if it's because they passed notes in class (not so much the content) i would have a talk to the whole class about note passing and mention whatever consequence will happen (whatever you feel is appropriate) should it become a problem.

Ive dealt with that in 4th grade last year.

I pulled them aside seperately and let them know that I understood that they are getting older and having these feelings about girls/boys but that school is not the place to be writing these notes.

OMG that is nothing...Last year I had a sixth grader in my room and she somehow downloaded AOL IM and was having cyber sex with someone!

I have heard about 5th graders talking about oral sex and intercourse


ETA..Sorry I didn't mean to make light of it...I would talk about the note passing and also say that we are in school to learn and that are perhaps too young to be thinking about bf and gf
