DUMBEST QUESTION EVER! How do you make a hard boiled egg?

Probably the dumbest question EVER but...

I dont make hard boiled eggs so I just looked it up. One site says boil them and then leave in hot water for another 10 minutes and then cool. Another says, place them in cool water right away after boiling. Which is correct??

I am trying to get my dd to eat an egg and this is the only way I havent tried yet. So how do you do it?? LOL

I use Alton Brown's method: cover with water, bring to boil, turn off heat and let sit for 12-15 minutes, then dunk in ice water until cool enough to peel.

I don't think it really matters whether you let it sit or put it in cold water.

i do this too, but i first let them sit out so that they are closer to room temperature. it helps the shell come off better.

I place my eggs in cold water and bring to a boil. When they reach a boil I turn them off and cover them with a lid. I let them sit about 10-12 minutes and then run cold water on them.
