Re: um ew bedbugs

My brother got them from somebody at work too--there were thousands of them in his house... the baby kept getting weird bites all over her... they kept going to the doctor, had the poor thing tested for allergies, and they finally figured out that it was bedbugs because they ALL started getting red welts ALL OVER THEIR BODIES!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon My brother then saw one and had to send a specimen to the EPA or something (not sure which agency, but they tested it and came back with that they were bed bugs.)

SOOOO gross. They had thousands of them in the couch... they had to throw out every single piece of furniture with upholstery... ALLL of the baby's stuffed animals, and the exterminators came 3 or 4 times and they still kept coming back. They finally had to move, and they put all of their clothes in a black plastic bag on the porch overnight to freeze the little suckers to death (it was winter), then washed all of the clothes in hot water.

Please be careful, you do NOT want these nasty things. Chat Icon

I had them in my last apartment before I moved to LI. It was AWFUL. FH and I slept on an air mattress in the living room for months. Exterminating works, but only kills the grown bedbugs, not the eggs. So it's a 3-step process. The exterminator sprays, and the adult bedbugs die. Over the next 3 weeks, the eggs hatch and you get new bedbugs, he comes back, sprays, and they die. 3 weeks later, he comes back a final time. So it takes a full 6 WEEKS from the first extermination until there are none left. We had a wooden bed from IKEA and they were living in the wood, and at night would crawl out. I thought I had allergies for 2 months or so (and that I was getting hives) before we figured it out from - sorry, TMI but it might be useful - blood spots on our sheets and pillows. The bedbugs suck your blood and then excrete out what they don't want, and if you have them, that's what you should look for - blood spots on your linens. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

That was 2 years ago and we've since moved 40 miles away, but I still sleep with plastic over my mattress. The suckers can live for a FULL YEAR between feedings, so even if you isolate them under plastic, they can come back.

Ugh, remembering this s*cks. I'm off to go cry now.

ugh I couldnt stay away.
but thats what I keep checking for when I change my sheets. I change sheets every week. All my stuff is new, sheets, mattress etc. but now that I read they can come in from other apartments that is what scares me, but I'm trying to stay calm lol. I look or blood stains so far nothing and since the mattress is brand new spanking white and pillowtop I inspect all corners and creases to see if I can see anything. My friend also told me a way you can check is to take a blow dryer put it on high and blow over your mattress. If you have them you will see movement. I havent done that because I'm too chicken too lol but I did have him look over my furniture and stuff even though, he said I"m good but he thinks i'm crazy lol and need to stop reading lol
