Those who wear glasses - anti reflective lenses $$
I wear glasses all the time pretty much and went to get new ones today. The anti reflective lenses are a full $100 extra!
2 pairs of glasses, an eye exam, and fitting for contacts came out to $730.

Re: Those who wear glasses - anti reflective lenses $$
I hear ya. The last pair I had before the ones I have now gave me big time sticker shock. Anti glare, anti scratch, light lenses... So I cheaped out a bit on the frames to save a little dough.
I learned my lesson - the frames were terrible after a year. I spent big on the frames/lenses I have now because I plan to keep them for a years. Even if my prescription changes, I'll keep the frames.
Sorry they were so pricey!

$100!!!
I just got glasses at Costco. Spent $30 extra to get the anti-reflective coating, and still ONLY paid $179. And got a year's supply of contacts for $111.
I am very happy I found Costco and their eye department and will never ever go to a chain place (Sterling, Lenscrafters, Cohen, etc) or an independant place and pay 100% mark-up! Last pair of glasses I got at Sterling Optical were $440. Never again.
Something to consider.

Do you know if you have to be a member of Costco?

I think these will be my last time going to an independant place. But the doctor came highly recommended...I'm definitely going to check out costco for the contacts when they tell me what kind I need to get.

The eyedoctor practice at the Westbury Costco is NOT affiliated with Costco, so anyone can go to the eyedoctor there. To be able to get the Rx's filled (glasses or contacts) at the Costco eye department, you need to be a member.

Re: Those who wear glasses - anti reflective lenses $$
There are different kinds of antireflective lenses now. I used to hate them, due to the scratching and the way they attracted dirt. Now I just ordered new glasses and they sold me on a new kind of coating, anti-reflective and scratch resistant and with a guarantee. I'll see if this is any better. If it is not, they really got me.

I also highly recommend Costco! I wish I had known about them all through high school and college but at least I know about them now. I have bought 2 pairs of glasses from them. I need the high index lenses (because my prescription is so high). Cohen's had charged me $400 and I got the same lenses for $99!!!! I thought Costco had it wrong and I made them repeat the price to me! And they do have some name brand frames - I got Ralph Lauren frames for $79.
If you have seen an eye doctor within the last year, you can ask them to give you your glasses and contacts prescription and then you can take that to Costco and they will fill it for you. You don't have to have an eye exam as long as you were checked within the last year I think. It's great!
