NYCers: Please help me figure out how to become an AP
Hey All~ I am looking into taking Educational Leadership Classes to get my AP license.
Does anyone know of a good school/program that I can look into?
About how time consuming is this process (classes, work, interning, etc.) Hubby and I also plan on TTC this year. Is this unreasonable?
Don't know what to do! Help! TIA!!!

i have no desire to get into adminsitration, but i went to Fordham for my Masters and people said their program was good. i also heard good things about St. John's. Also, you mighth want to look into the DOE's Principal Academy... i believe it's at very, very low cost to you...
GOOD LUCK!

Hey..I went through CITE and went one day a week on the weekends for a year..twice, i had to go to albany for a weekend for classes..it was time consuming in that you lose a weekend day a couple of weekends...also you have to do an internship, but you definitely get time to do it. There is also a new test you have to take when you do this..if you have any more questions, feel free to FM and good luck!

Thanks for the tips, ladies. Initially, I had no aspirations to become an AP, but after looking at my junky paycheck after 8 years in I am looking into any options available.

Re: NYCers: Please help me figure out how to become an AP
I know a lot of people who did the admin. program at Brooklyn College. It took four semesters. I also have a friend who took it through NYU--not worth the $$ IMO. I also know another woman who got hers through CITE over several years and got a job right away.
Do you have your 30 above? I'm also at 8b with my 30 above and I don't think an AP's starting salary is much higher--plus you lose the summers off! And you have so much more to stress out about. I guess you can tell I have no desire to get into administration!
PS- Don't forget about our 5% raise in May!
Good Luck!

I am currently doing the program at Stony Brook. They have an online program available.

Cool. Thats where I got my MS Degree and they have really great professors. Can I assume that it is a NYC DOE "approved" program?

I'm in the Ed.D. in Instructional Leadership at St. John's. I've liked the majority of classes/professors I have taken there that were focused on education administration. FM me if you want more info.
