Activator Method -- Chiropractor?
Starting last year I developed lower back pain. Because I was PG the only thing the chiropractor could do was adjustments. Which worked...but I hated them!!! In the last 8 months since I've given birth my back frequently "goes out" as well as having sever right hip pain and now right knee pain. I believe because I hold DS on the left side and I probabyl overcompensate on the right.
Anyway, my back is out again now and I need some relief so I made an appt. with a chiropractor who uses the activator method which is supposed to be no cracking and pulling and stuff. Anyone have any experience with it and can let me know what to expect?
TIA

Re: Activator Method -- Chiropractor?
As someone with pretty bad lower back problems, I think chiros can be great -- but only AFTER you get a good diagnosis from an MD.
Have you been to an ortho yet?

no, you think I should start there? I just assumed chiro would be the first stop. Hmmmmm. Maybe I'll look in the insurance guide for someone. Thanks!

Re: Activator Method -- Chiropractor?
No, chiro shouldn't be the first stop for new back pain. Definitely see an MD (preferably an orthopedist) first! You want to have the right tests run to see what exactly is causing the pain. Not only will that help you more, but it will give more guidance to a chiropractor should you decide to see one after visiting your MD.
I have severe lower back problems -- I always say doctor first to figure out what the problem is.

My chiro uses activator. No cracking and no complaints.
I have herniated discs, so I don't want anyone cracking and amnipulating my back.
I agree with Kara though, I would go to a doctor first and get the appropriate tests so you know exactly what is going on.

Re: Activator Method -- Chiropractor?
I'm the opposite. I think if a chiropractor is working, there's no need to go to an MD. They are both doctors, just different methods.
My first chiropractor mainly used the activator method. I loved it!!! It seemed like nothing to have it done. I always called it the stapler, because it sounded like that.

Mine uses that and then gives me the traditional adjustment. Is that not the norm? I need the audible back cracking to feel better. My problem is in my neck, so it might be different.
