I think I always set my goals too high

And that's why I end up yo-yo'ing. I had an epiphany and realized that maybe I don't have a realistic understanding of what a healthy weight/size is for my height and frame.

So, tell me, just out of curiosity - if you were 5'4 and had a medium, albeit, curvy, frame, what do you think is an ideal, healthy weight? Dress size?

I want to see how off I am from the general consensus Chat Icon

Maybe somewhere in the range of 120-130 lbs? I'm 5'5" and have a medium (curvy) frame as well and that range is usually where I look and feel my best.

Im just about 5'4 and have small-medium frame (curvy) and I am happiest at 120-125...I would love to be 115-120 but realistically without cutting back too much on food, and still enjoying life 120-125 is comfortable...clothing size that is about 2-4.

Well, i would love to be 125 - but doubt I'll ever get there again!
I am 5'3 and weigh 130ish - I wear a size 6. It seems to be my bodys comfortable weight.

Re: I think I always set my goals too high

I'm a bit taller than you (5'6") and started out at 165... I know that my ultimate goal is 130... but right now I'm focusing on my 10%, which would be 149. I'm going to see how I feel there, and then go for 135. My plan is to maintain 135 for a few months, and then if I want, try to get down to 130.

I think it's good to focus on smaller goals. See how you feel at that for a while, and then decide if you want to loose more. 130 is just too overwhelming for me right now and 149 is much more manageable.

Good luck!

Re: I think I always set my goals too high

I think it depends on how you carry your weight. I'm around 125 at 5'4" and would like to lose another 5 or 10, but am content where I am. I am more bottom heavy though, so I wear a size 8 petite or 6 regular, but I usually wear a size small in shirts (when my chest allows; I'm a big C so I can't always do the size small). My cousin is very muscular and weighs more than me, but wears a smaller size, so it really varies by person. I don't think I'd ever be a size 4 because my hips are large, but in skirts I can do a size 4 because I don't have a large waist.

Re: I think I always set my goals too high

Ok, well, I'll fess up.

Right now I'm 145.

But, it's weird, because I am a size 8 on bottom, and a size 6 on top.

I was happiest when I was in the 130's, so I'm setting my mini-goal to 135

Long-term goal to 125

We'll see how it goes Chat Icon

Re: I think I always set my goals too high

it depends on so many things...especially where you carry your weight.

I am a bit taller than you (around 5'6.5") and my best weight is probably something between 145-150.

I am somewhere betw. medium and large framed, have wide hips, muscular curvy legs, sizeable booty and a decent sized rack (and small waist)

I have never been able to stay under 145 for any period of time. my body just rebels.

instead of weighing myself...which makes me sad b/c the number is so "high" I use my measurements and fitness level to be the judge.

get your body fat tested. b/c that tells you about your fat to muscle ratio.

I had a lower body fat measurment at a higher weight b/c I started exercising more and building my muscles.

don't let the scale tell you too much...there are many other ways to measure health, fitness, and hotness.

don't read too much into what you weigh, but how you feel.

every Body is different. Chat Icon

YOU just asked the question i've always wanted to ask on this board but was afraid

i've also yo yo'd all my life basically because of my childhood.

my sil just had twins 7 months ago and now weighs 103 lbs and is also 5'4. She makes me feel like such a failure

you look fantastic!

don't be concerned about how much you "weight" as compared to someone else.

just be fit and healthy. Chat Icon

it has taken me a LONG time to realize my shape...the way my body IS...will not have me in those low numbers without sacraficing too much (buh bye booty, muscle tone, and boobs Chat Icon )

some women might want to kill themselves if they had my body (too much real estate) but it's mine...and I just gotta make it the all around best it can be...big butt, thick thighs, and all! Chat Icon

Re: I think I always set my goals too high

I'm 5'4" and I don't like how I look below 120.

Sure my butt, hips and thighs are smaller, and I look better in jeans, but so is my chest and arms. My chest area gets very bony and it doesn't look healthy on me.

I know I wouldn't be happy if my weight was above 130, but that's becaue I've always weighed less than that.

But there are plenty of 5'4" girls who weigh over 130 and have hot, sexy bodies. They are toned and fit and look amazing.

I think confidence alone sheds at least 10 lbs off what the scale says!

Re: I think I always set my goals too high

Ok, well, I'm going to take it as it goes in 5lb increments. I honestly felt my best when I got married - I was eating great, working out almost everyday and I think I weighed around 130 or so, so if I get back to that, I think I'll feel good Chat Icon

Re: I think I always set my goals too high

I was pretty much in the same situation. I am 5'4 and my weight post- baby was around 148. I rejoined WW and set my goal for 135. I am now 137, a size 6, and very, VERY happy. Yeah, I guess 125 would be great, but I'm in my 30s and just don't want to watch what I eat 24/7 to maintain that weight and I do have the tendency to drive myself totally insane with weight loss. My body feels right at this weight.
