Teaching after Masters Degree...
is it true that you can teach a college course after you receive a Masters Degree in your field?
Does anyone know? I don't mean after you receive a Masters in Education...i mean receiving a masters in a different field. Hope that makes sense

Yes, but usually only at the undergraduate level.

I have my M.S.Ed. now and I am teaching graduate level Educational Psychology. However, I am ABD (all but dissertation) toward getting my doctorate. I didn't have to take any special courses to do this. Actually, I wish I did, b/c I know nothing about teaching!

agreed. as far as i know there is no license that you need, like say a teacher in a public school would need. this would makes sense as some of the smartest professors i have had were among the worst teachers!
also it depends on the field you're in as well as your experience. also, depends on the quality of the university. large and/or competiive universities usually only hire people with doctorates or ABD.

Yes, I've seen advertisements looking for adjunct professors, all you needed was a Masters Degree.

I know if you are a pharmacist for example you can teach undergrad pharmacy classes, same for lawyers etc. and yes teachers with masters degrees can teach undergrad edu courses

I agree. I only started teaching when I became ABD. They will often advsertise "Master's required, ABD or doctorate preferred," but in most areas they have enough applicants to take the people with ABD or doctorate, especially in areas like liberal arts and humanities where the fields are flooded with people with doctorates. I work at a university, and there are only a handful of faculty members who are tenure-track with only a master's, and all of those were terminal degrees (where doctorates aren't offered in the area). With a master's only, the chances of college teaching are slim, but you may be able to get some adjunct work (just an FYI, adjuncts don't make much--I was paid $3000 at a large public university for teaching an MBA class with a doctorate...that was more than people with master's and more than people teaching undergrad classes). In this area, the community colleges and public universities seem to pay the most from my experience, and St. Joseph's seems to have the most adjuncts with only a master's. I believe they also pay the least. Dowling also hires quite a few with only master's.
There are no special certificates or anything, but preference is given to those who have taught at the college level before (as part of the master's/doctoral program, etc.), and preference is given to those with publications.
