we always stay at Barefoot North Tower...love it...but it's not on the beach. North Myrtle, kind of empty beaches, perfect for my DH and his kite flying
For beach, we stay at sea crest, just your average beach hotel. Right on the strip, active beach scene.

long bay resort
best place ever
why b/c/ the pool/beach/hottub ruled.. was a shortish taxi ride from broadway at the beach
near golf if peopel are into that too
(and close to walmart to get tons of snacks etc at a cheapy price hehe)
