what happened?
Yesterday after work I went straight to the gym and ran/jogged 3 miles. I drank half of my 1 liter bottle of water.
I came home and had a glass of wine, took a bath then started to make dinner. In the middle of putting dinner together I felt unbelievably light headed and dizzy. I had to keep standing in front of the AC and taking breaks to sit on the couch. I gulped down a full glass of water, sat for about 20 more mins and felt better to finish dinner. I made a salad with a little pasta in it and ate the whole thing.... still had an appetite. Afterwards, I felt exhausted and went straight to bed. Feel a little groggy today.
DH thinks I didn't drink enough water and maybe got dehydrated. I think maybe I over extended myself because usually on the treadmill I'll run/walk in intervals, but this time I ran and then if I got tired did a fast jog (shaved 2 mins off my time) so maybe I overdid it after a long day at work...
If it sounds like dehydration, I really need to work on that. I felt awful last night... really thought I was going to faint if I didn't sit.

Re: what happened?
I can't say for sure, but you possibly could have had an electrolyte inbalance, which happens when you get dehydrated.
This has happened to me.
Since I am "dieting" and working out, I always have a bottle of gatorade with me, a huge bottle of water and a bag of pretzels. Whenever I have felt that way, drink the gatorade and have a few pretzels.

Re: what happened?
Did you drink water before and during the run?? I have found that although I am just starting off with running, that the days I don't drink enough, I am off. I have to make sure I drink a huge glass or 2 in the hour before I go.
Also, any chance you could be PG?

Nope, not PG.
See, I drink my water during my runs and then usually a normal glass ( 8oz) after w/ dinner (but last night I had wine instead). But I usually head to the gym after work and I don't drink a lot of water because its a rather decent drive to the gym so I usually cut off my water intake about 2-3 hrs before I head out the door. So I stop drinking water around 2:30-3 then don't start again until i'm running at around 6:30. But I do drink water throughout the day. Could it be a problem that I'm not drinking right up until my run?

I'm thinking of getting coconut water (similar effects to gatorade) and see if it helps -thanks for suggestion!

I also will sometimes eat a teaspoon of all natural peanut butter (smuckers makes a good one!) - make sure it's all natural - it regulates your blood sugar - but eat it BEFORE your workout.

Re: what happened?
I am not sure but I think it could come from a variety of things but it sounds mostly like dehydration and/or overexertion. Could also be low blood sugar as well though...
I make sure to hydrate ALL day long - especially if I know I am going to be doing some sort of activity outside. If your pee is clear you are properly hydrating yourself throughout the day. Also be sure to drink right before your run and right after.
Try not to overexert yourself. You should really build your time and distance gradually

Re: what happened?
Make sure you eat carbs before you work out. I've gotten light headed during workouts if I don't eat enough. Remember food is fuel.
