Still upset over what happened...my 6 month old was smacked in the face by a 3 year old
this happened about 2 hours ago when I left Michael's craft store. I was walking on a sidewalk area back to my car, and a little boy (i think around 3) ran up to the stroller....and just smacked Johnny across his face.
This 3 year old was walking behind his mother...I ran up to her to tell her what happened (I was in complete shock) and she ignored me...refused to look me in the eye and just grabbed her son and yelled something at him in Spanish.
I looked at the child, told him "you don't smack anyone, its not nice at all!!" he stuck his tongue out at me and said "i don't care"..he kept screaming "i don't care".
I sat in my car and cried. I don't know why i got so emotional, my baby just looked so shocked after he was slapped and of course he started crying.
Sorry, just needed to vent...he is fine, but i am so upset over what happened and how the mom did NOTHING...and just to add...i do not think this child was disturbed ...i think he is probably hit all the time himself...sad really..

That is horrible. You were more composed than I would be. I would have been livid at that mother for ignoring me (unless maybe she didn't speak English?).
I remember when my friend's son kicked Miranda in the head. I was so upset. I tried to brush it off because she was so upset about it (he did it on purpose for no reason). But I was fuming inside. I wanted to hurt him back for hurting my baby.
 It's normal to get emotional when someone or something hurts your baby.

Jeezus!!!!!!!!! I would still be upset also!!!!!!!! I had to read what you posted 3 times to make sure I was reading it correctly....
The mother didnt say anything to you? Did she know english?
I would of probably slapped the mother and made her understand!

 W T F is wrong with that mother. I would have grabbed her arm or something and made her listen to me.
I know this doesn't solve the problem, but after the mother ignored me, I probably would have slapped the mom across her face and said "how do you like it?"

I can not believe that!!!! I would have cried too...I teared up reading that! Who in their right mind ignors that! Good for you for standing up for your baby! Shame shame shame on that mother!!! and I hate to say it, but what a BRAT!

I would be upset too - I am thinking that the 3 yr old boy probably has some emotional problems - he may be a brat, but he may have a whole slew of other things going on as well - sure sounds like it - to go up to a strange baby and do it, and then to speak to an adult that way when being yelled at....
How horrible.... I'm so sorry... your poor little baby....

I don't think she spoke English...BUT her child did. So i don't know.
The whole thing was odd. She was walking very fast in front of him and he was running to keep up. When this child ran up to the stroller i honestly thought NOTHING of it. I thought he was going to look at johnny and that was that. He literally reached back and smacked him across his face. I kept yelling at the mom..I wasn't going to walk away without saying anything.
she did not react one bit, she averted her eyes and just grabbed her kids arm and yelled in spanish. I am just sad that my kid was hit..he is just a baby...it shook me up and i cried on the phone to my husband who told me there was nothing i could do, and i did the right thing.

Thank you. I hate though that my first thoughts are "what a terrible kid, what a brat". But since i've been home its been replaying in my head and i really think the child is taught that...he is probably hit and screamed at...the mother didn't care, or she didn't understand what just happened and ignored me...at any rate, it stinks.

She understood that her son did something bad or she wouldn't have yelled at him.
I don't know what I would have done. I probably would have grabbed the kid. Then the cops would have came...

I would have been SO upset too. And I probably would have started screaming at the mother as well for not feeling bad! I'm so sorry that happened to you!!!!!

I am crying again!! Lol...I must be pms'ing.
Thanks for all your words. Johnny is perfectly fine now, he is babbling away and playing..i'm sure he forgot it the minute after it happened...it just STINKS. You don't ever want your child to hurt.
It was bad enough that i cried when he got his shots! Now this! I am such an emotional wreck since he's born, I guess it comes with the territory?!

OMG I think my natural instincts would have been to whack the kid right back then I'd have a lot of explaining to do. So sorry usually when children are that bratty it's because of lack of discipline from the parent anyway so that's probably why you got the brushoff.

OMG I am so sorry this happened.
I commend you for keeping your calm..if it were me..I cant imagine what I would have done. If I saw my 6 month olds' face marked or the look of hurt in her eyes, someone would have had to hold me back.
And the mother??????? Doesnt matter if you speak english, spanish, chinese, or hungarian...a simple sorry in any language is understandable just by tone. Something!!!! Why the hell wasnt she watching her child in the first place????????? I am livid for you!

OMG I would have smacked that child for hitting my child for no reason or I would have slapped the mother for her stupidity.
I don't know what I would do if anyone hits my baby for no reason. I know I would flip my lid. Noone and I do mean noone hurts my baby!!!!!
Whether or not she speaks english i'm sure she understood that her child did something wrong. If my child did something like this to someone else's kid there could be no way I would walk away without telling my child to apologize immediately!
