How do I get into substitute teaching?

I'm currently in school for elementary ed and want to start substitute teaching. How do I get into this?

Contact your local school district. Each district has different requirements, but this is a great time of year to get in touch with them!

call the personnel offices for a few districts around you. you will have to fill out some info and maybe even need your fingerprints (if you haven't done that yet)

I subbed in grad school also. Make sure your name is on the list for several districts - you've got a better chance of getting a call every day AND you're spreading your name around.

After you call the districts become bff with the person that does the calling and ask her if she knows of any days in advance that she could pencil you in for. When I was a sub the best was getting the advance notice because then you don't have the 5 am wake up call!
