Looking for random advice and tips

At 32 weeks, I'm in a panic every time I feel the twins moved, I'm convinced they are trying to break out of their sacs and that they will be arriving any minute now.

I feel totally unprepared what to do with both of them once they arrive, so I'm basically looking for tips on the basics like

feeding them
putting them to sleep together
soothing them etc etc

having one was one thing, but having 2 at a time is baffling to me!

I won't sugar coat it....having twins kicked my a$$! But there are things that you can do that will save time and energy:

1. Get them on a schedule ASAP! This is most important.

2. Try and feed them 15 minutes apart. This way you can feed one at a time.

3. Get your hands on a bottle proper for when they are a little bit older. Muliples websites sell them. I wish I had this!

4. Make all of your bottles twice a day. Then keep some in a cooler at night in the nursery. This makes it easier for night feedings.

5. Take any and all help people offer you. I didn't and I regret it! Around week 10 things got better. By the time they were 4 months we were smooth sailing.

6. Just being organized helped. And realizing that you have to be flexible because life is really different now.

7. Soothing them is hard if they both cranky/tired/teething. I would hold one and put the other in a bouncy seat and bounce away with my foot. We were also big fans of the swing for rough times.

8. The babies only slept together for a few nights. I woke one night to find James sucking Claire's toe! I figured they were a little too close. Also, in the hospital they slept in seperate cribs.

9. Traveling with them.....I could have not survived without the snap and go! I loved that stroller! I miss it! It made life so easy!

Good Luck to you!

I agree with all of the above..especially number 7 and #9. Just know that it does get easier. My babies are 11 months and it has gotten so much easier!! When it gets rough now that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I realized at 9.5 months that they don't wake each other up when they cry.

Re: Looking for random advice and tips

Schedules worked great for us, it was what made me sane.

I would also tend to the one that was more upset and feed that one first, etc. I would also have to let them cry at times. I felt bad putting on down when feeding to take care of the other one if I knew it was nothing serious. I did a lot of leaning over the crib and singing to soothe them.

I would feed them one at a time because I wanted them to each get that time with me, since breast feeding didn't work for us. But having a system and alot of help, was really what helped us get thru the day.

I agree with the above posters...the key is to get them on schedule, at 2 years old, my boys are STILL on the same feeding and sleeping schedule...heck they even poop at the same timeChat Icon

Re: Looking for random advice and tips

I agree with everyone else...Mine were preemies so the schedule thing was already done for me.. but also invest in the Poddee bottle.. I starting using it at 3 months and with having a older one I could not live without it...they did learn how to hold a sippy cup and I am proud to say at 15 months are completely off their bottles . they sleep throught the night and are each others best friend. It is easier having another one.. you already know how to diaper, change,, etc...

also make time for you single child.. this is the MOST important thing.. you are already getting attention when you go ANYWHERE with twins and the older one will start to feel a little left out. I try to even take my DD food shopping with me just to have some alone time with her...

I will admit this is hard.. and this is why MoMs are called supermoms...and it is hard in the beginning and then you look around months later and wonder how you ever did it with just one!

Great advice all around.....I will add my 2 cents....

Podee didn't work for me but bottle propers were a life saver. They look like the picture below. We didn't start using them until the 2nd month. They save you so much time when you are doing night feedings. I put them both on a boppy and tilted their heads to the side and did that.

Also accept all the help people offer you. My MIL came every day so i could sleep in the morning. My mom did wash, dishes, fed me dinner....I accepted it all. I even had friends calling asking if they could help and I asked them to come over to hold one while I bathed the other. You will be amazed at how much help you will get......take it! Especially since you have a toddler too!

Schedule was everything as well!
