endoscopy- anybody have this?
Stomach cancer runs in my family and I have had some bad news toward cancer over the past few years.
Anybody have this done? Can you tell me anything?
Anybody get this done while expecting bad news?
How long does it take for results?

I had one, I don't think it took very long, maybe 15 minutes? I was knocked out, so I don't remember it. The Dr pretty much gave me the results when I woke up, I only had to wait for the results of the biospy. He called with that in a few days.

I had one - the procedure is nothing because your're asleep. The worse part for me was just being kind of groggy all day from the anesthesia. The doctor told me right away that I didn't have any ulcers or anything like that. And like the other poster said, the biopsy comes back in a couple of days.

are you having an upper endoscopy???
if so - i was NOT knocked out for it. i had something sprayed down my throat to numb it and they put the tube and camera down there.
It was crazy cool...i was like - i can feel it when i swallow - the doc tells me, okay, open your mouth.
I do so and he shoves his entire hand down there and moves my epiglotis....i don't gag. He just laughed at me...he was like, 'you're numb'...
It was completely painless!!

My dh had it. They put him out. It was a quick procedure. They did take a small biopsy that took about a week to get back results. He was not uncomfortable at all.

They mentioned I will be knocked out. At least, I think that's what they said.  I don't think I would want to be awake. That freaks me out!

i had an endoscopy and colonoscopy at the same time a month ago.... maybe month and half now...
i was expecting horrible news... i had alot of GI symptoms.. going on 10 years.. really put it off... turns out.. it was quick and painless.. i was unphased by the stuff when i woke up.. wasn't groggy at all..... nothing hurt from the scopes.. and i ate houliahns after haha.. best meal ever (after 36 hours of not eating for combined prep period
i was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia, and celiac disease ... not horrible news really.. i was expecting some sort of polyps, lesions etc due to my GI history.. there is a questionable sphincter by my esophogas that doesnt move and is supposed to... i guess that will all be figured out and talked about at my next appt... but for now a year of nexium (hopefully won't need surgery for hernia thing).. and a lifetime of not eating gluten/wheat etc... (which i didnd do much of anywyas)
it took under 35 min for BOTH from start to finish i remember then telling me upper was usualy under 10 min and yes most places put you out.. i know people elect not to sometimes but get put out its a nice restful sleep... woke up feeling like i wanted to do spring cleaning haha.. that much energy...
they can give you alot of results almost immediately... biopsys come back in a week or so depending on the lab...my dr gave me a print out with info on it and some pics (gross!)... like 30 min after my procedure and a month of nexium samples ... so you walk out even medicated if you need it... (i saw everyone leaving with samples... )
 you can Fm me if you want more info... im so glad i finally did this after 10 years.. if i kept eating gluten id have ended up in the hospital , with more permanant nerve damage and a blown out esphogas like my biological father.. althoough im not "healthy" i have diagnosed manageble problems... and finally knowing whats going on with your body is the best feeling in the world..

My dad has (had  ) esophageal/stomach cancer, so he has had many! He said that the weirdest part of it all is that he is only semi-out, he can still hear everything happening, but is unaware of what is actually happening. I would guess its the upper endoscopy that a pp mentioned above.

I just had a colonoscopy, which is the same idea, but a different... point of entry. Anyway, they saw what they needed to see on the camera right then and there, and had to remove and biopsy something, which they told me to come back in 2 weeks to discuss.
I was most worried about the anesthesia, but it was just like falling asleep at night - only really fast! - and 30 minutes later, it felt like I was waking up from a nap. I wasn't groggy or disoriented or scared upon waking up.

I am going in for an endoscopy on november 4th. I had one ten years ago but I havent been feeling to well lately so it is time to do another one. They put you out for it. You wont feel a thing

I've had two upper endoscopies with two biopsies. You are under twilight so they can actually talk to you but you won't remember it. They give you an IV to administer this. When I woke up, I had NO discomfort and went home and rested. Don't worry about the procedure, it really was nothing to be afraid of.
