HR Question Regarding Exempt or Salaried Employees
Is it legal for a company based in NY to make you take a half day PTO (Personal Time Off) if you leave early (say around 2-3pm)?
You are a salaried employee who (obviously) does not receive any kind of overtime pay or comp time for working past 5 or coming in before 9.
Is this legal? Can they do that?
Any info would be appreciated!

I don't know about the leaving early stuff but I do know that a bunch of employees recently sued a company over the fact that they came in early and stayed late doing work that they were NOT compensated for.

Re: HR Question Regarding Exempt or Salaried Employees
From the DOL website: Under the New York State Labor Law, payment for holidays, sick time or vacation -- i.e. payment for time not actually worked - is not required unless the employer has established a policy to grant such pay. When an employer does decide to create a benefit policy, that employer is free to impose any conditions they choose.
Your employer can require that you take personal time (half-day) in your situation - it's legal.
