NYC employees- disability question
Does anyone know what kind of short term disability is offered to NYC employees? Are they covered by the NYS disability law?

Re: NYC employees- disability question
I was on disability after a car accident few years ago... as far as I remember you can receive it for 3 months...after 3 months you go to a doctor that they send you to and if the doctor decides you are ok then they take away the disability... I think the maximum that you get is around $170.00 per week...

I believe by law they have to be covered by the state laws in less the company/city laws are more beneficial.
But I've been a NJ girl for a while now, so I may be misspeaking.

Is it work related? What city organization?
DH is FDNY and he was on LODI and got his regular paycheck. He also has AFLAC and we got $1200 for the month he was out.

thanks, its nothing major in the grand scheme of things. He fell and broke his foot, has a cast to his knee and is on crutches.
he works for NYC DEP, but I keep reading that 'government employees' are not covered by the NYS law. I had disability payments after giving birth, so I remember how we did it. But no one at his job/HR knows anything about it. They just told him to exhaust his time off and then take unpaid leave

this is correct federal and state CANNOT mix. I work fr the federal govt and for that reason whever I went out on materenity leave, i was unable to collect NYS disability. I don't he'll be entitled to anything except FMLA and maybe he can ask his employer to post about people donating their leave. We have employees who have to go out on FMLA for health reasons and a huge medical center-wide email gets generated asking for people to donate, of not, that person has NO income except any accumulated paid leave Sorry
