Spinoff to telephone calls with kids
Tell me I'm not alone in this-when someone PUTS their kid on the phone to talk with you.
No-they can't carry a conversation. No-they don't understand me. No-I can't understand them.
I have a family member who puts their children on the phone with me and OMG, I just can't!!!! It's pure torture.

Re: Spinoff to telephone calls with kids
They should all be honest like my niece:
Sister (to my niece): Come say hi to Aunt Shawnna
Niece (she's 2): Aaahhh...NO!!
End of conversation!

Re: Spinoff to telephone calls with kids
I dont mind talking to my nieces but when my sister puts her (one and only super spoiled) son on the phone all he does is "smack talk" me. Like he gets on the phone and literally tells me next time he sees me he's going to beat me up and he's stronger and tougher and he plays football so he can kick my butt....so on and so forth
It must be a boy thing especially since he is the only boy out of five

Re: Spinoff to telephone calls with kids
ur not the only one!!!
I cant tell u how many times i call my sisters house and my nephew picks up the phone and leaves me hanging when i say let me talk to mommy.. he mumbles a few words and either hangs up on me or puts the phone down. I have to then try to call my sisters cell...
I dont know why people allow their children to pick up the phone!!!!

Re: Spinoff to telephone calls with kids
Yes its an odd thing. My niece now calls my mom and dad up to speak to them. My nephew used to but now I guess is bored of talking on the phone. Both are 7. They actually can carry a convo so I don't mind talking to them but not for more then 10 mins after that I am done. Anyone under 7 - that is a hello and love you and goodbye convo otherwise its babble.

Re: Spinoff to telephone calls with kids
I enjoy talking to my nieces and nephews, yes when they're really young it isn't much of a convo but as they get older it does.
I look at it as a way of teaching them to communicate and helping them to learn to talk on the telephone.
However a pet peeve of mine is when people put their kids on their answering machine as the message (and I mean the one that says "we're not home right now..." ) and they too young to really speak thereby leaving this hardly understandable message.
That annoys me for some reason.

Re: Spinoff to telephone calls with kids
There are times when i want to hang up...like when i call to ask a quick questions and next thing i know I am listening to 4 minutes of non-sense...otherwise I don't mind too much...i equate it to having a conversatoin with Elmo...haha...to me that's how most kids sound

Re: Spinoff to telephone calls with kids
As I said on the other thread- I have resorted to putting my cat on the phone to say Hi.
That has resolved the issue...

THAT is hysterical
My N&N's are older now and I can actually have a conversation with them. When they were younger, if they didn't answer me, I would yell in their ear.
"Toriiiiiiiiiii!!! Where are yoooooooooou!!! Oh my goodness we lost her!! Where is sheeeeee!"
That would always make them laugh.

Re: Spinoff to telephone calls with kids
I don't think it's right unless I ask to talk to the kid or unless they do it for only about 2 seconds. I only put DS on with my mom and she asks all the time.
