Macbook...who has one?
Tell me the pros and cons. I've been a PC user for years. Why should I buy one?

Re: Macbook...who has one?
I have one and personally I'm not to thrilled with it BUT, I'm still learning. There is still alot of software that I have to purchase in order for me to use it to its full potential. I do love the fact that its virus protected and it has a lot of shortcuts.

Re: Macbook...who has one?
virus protected? mac's are not attached nearly as much as windows based pc's because of the amount of users available.
my recommendation is to go an apple store and play.

Re: Macbook...who has one?
My issue with my PCs is that they are so effing slow. I swear it must be the programs I have on my desktop but they are NOTHING. I have itunes, Office and Norton. Everything else is standard!

Re: Macbook...who has one?
2 words...WINDOWS VISTA
its just a god awful operating system. I have a dell inspiron 1501 with vista and they made it look like a mac system with the icons and colors, etc. but gees...if you dont have a suped up pc to handle the graphics it will crawl.
i had to change settings and my brother upped the ram to over a gig i think and now its better.
but my next purchase will probably be a mac.

I think that's my problem. My first laptop was purchased in 2001 and it had Windows ME...the version between NT and XP.
I got this laptop when Vista just came out and OMG My parents have Vista on their desktop and it's so much faster! I can't understand why

Re: Macbook...who has one?
i have a macbook and have been a user for years. this is actually my second one. we are an all mac household....DH had a dell when i first met him and once we moved in together i got him to switch to a mac too he was SO hesitant about it and now he cannot rave enough about macs. honestly, i could go on and on. i don't think there are ANY cons. unless you use your PC for something very PC specific, there is nothing the mac can't do that a PC can. i promise!!! buy one!! you won't need any extra software unless you want to buy the microsoft office suite for mac (which is like $100) if you use your computer for the usual things...internet, itunes, etc, you will NOT be disappointed! if you have any questions, i'd be happy to help!

Thank you! I know many people have told me the con is just getting used to it. I think I just might make the switch.

No problem! As I'm sure you can see, I love talking about macs! DH was really worried too about getting used to his mac but he caught on really quickly. Also, apple has a whole guide on their site that helps PC users make the switch and I think they also offers tutorials/classes in some of their stores for "switchers". Here's the link to the online info: click here
Good Luck!

Macs actually have a sort of virus protection built in the processor architecture much like the AMD processors...I believe that is what she meant. Mac's frequently get viruses but they are targeted at Windows based pc's, which is why they do not effect the Mac.

Re: Macbook...who has one?
I have to say that I never thought I would say this because i have been a PC advocate for years BUT we got a MAC desktop last year and I LOVE IT. If i didn't just get a new laptop last year I would go out and get a MAC laptop. Needless to say my next laptop will definitely be a MAC

Re: Macbook...who has one?
my Dell had recently died and I was so fed up with PCs I had DH meet me at the apple store at the mall after work to buy a Macbook.
AND WE LOVE IT. it is SO easy to use. its really not that different from windows. its so easy. all the icons you need are right along the bottom, plus it comes with itunes and iphoto which are great.
the only "con" is that it doesnt come with a word processing application (like word) you have to buy something extra to install it.
you can get iLife which is apple's "office"...it has a spreadsheet application and everything for like $80 i think
or you can buy Microsoft Office for Mac (got it off amazon for $116) which is what we did and it works great. now i can go back and forth with my documents at work.
get a mac! you'll never go back! lol

Re: Macbook...who has one?
I have only used mac products (computer) for years now. Solid work horses - hardly any viruses so unless your lurking in really horrible sites there is no fear. easy to work on in my mind. Only issue I have is entourage on the mac.

Re: Macbook...who has one?
Oooh ooh me! I was a PC user for years. Even in college I bought a laptop and DH told me I should try a mac but I was worried about being comfortable with it. A year and a half later I needed a new laptop so I decided I was sick of PCs. I bought my macbook and it was the best purchase I ever made. I've had it about a year and a half and it still runs just as fast as when I first got it. It's so easy to use too and very responsive. I recommend going into an apple store and just playing around with one. It takes a few minutes or so to get used to it but then it's really easy. I also use a PC at work and have no problem switching back and forth. FM me if you have any questions.
ETA: No problems with any viruses so far.

Re: Macbook...who has one?
I love our mac desktop, it was a bit confusing to learn at first, but we got the hang of it and absolutely love it, we even got DHs family to switch to mac so now we use the ichat too! With it we also bought iWork because we read reviews that it was better then Microsoft for mac. I can't wait to get a macbook so that DH and I don't have to share the desktop!

Re: Macbook...who has one?
Thanks everyone. I think I will just go to a Mac store and fool around with one. I know there will be some getting used to it, but if it's going to be better for me overall, it will be worth the investment.
