Re: Question about Provera

Provera is basically synthetic progestin. It tricks the body into thinking it ovulated. It raises the progesterone level, and then when the progesterone levels leave the blood ...your lining sheds...and AF appears.

A lot of women have to wait a few days after taking provera for their AF to come (the progesterone has to clear out of the blood stream).

It should work....unless in the case, a woman may be pregnant. That happened to one of the ladies on this board, she took provera, and AF never came...and she turned out to be pregnant. Doctors are supposed to do pregnancy tests before prescribing it however.

How long has your friend been off the med ?

Re: Question about Provera

I've taken it in the past when I wasn't getting AF. I took it for 10 days and got my period like 2 or 3 days after finishing the Rx. And yes, my doc always did a PG test before I took it.

Re: Question about Provera

I've taken it in the past and both times I only ended up taking the 5 out of the 10 prescribed. I got AF on the 6th day. I guess everybody is different.Chat Icon

Re: Question about Provera

I take provera for 10 days and get my period about 2-3 days after that. My doctor told me to always take a pregnancy test before you start taking the drug.
