Swine flu?!

Is anyone nervous about this in their classrooms?! Also, are you doing anything different?

I always have a bottle of antibacterial stuff on my desk, even before this whole thing went down. I am just more strongly enforcing the whole sneezing into the elbow thing, and washing your hands extra well.

Re: Swine flu?!

I'm in Kindergarten, and I have parents sending in bottles of antibacterial gel with their children.

I'm not more nervous than usual. I've always washed my hands/used anti bac gel regularly. We have four tables in our classroom and I might start wiping them down during my prep with clorox wipes or baby wipes just to be on the safe side.

I work at St Francis. It's a matter of making sure that kids that are sick don't come into school, covering mouths and faces when sneezing and coughing, washing hands, not sharing anything with each other. I'm worried about going back, but it's more because I am pregnant. It's a mild case in NY and most of the kids are recovering quickly. Still scary.

Re: Swine flu?!

My brother works in 177. I used to work there a long time ago. Unfortunately, when it is typical kids, you can have them wash their hands more and tell you their symptoms. With children diagnosed with autism, they can't always do that. He is freaking out a little bit :)

Re: Swine flu?!

Just so you all know, there are about 400 times the amount of germs on the top of your students' desks than there are on a toilet set in a non-swine flu break out time. This comes from Clorox.

I think parents have a responsibility to keep their sick children home REGARDLESS if they have been exposed or not. My child has missed 2 weeks of day care in the past month because parents are bringing their sick kids in and getting my child sick. In MY setting I am bringing things from my students to her as well. I am losing sick days left and right to stay home with her and G-d help me if I get sick. This is not good for me professionally and I feel terrible when I cannot be there. It leaves everyone in an awful bind.

Just be responsible.
