Re: Anyone else worried about the swine flu?
Am I concerned? Well anytime you hear of an outbreak I think you get nervous. But then I think of all the times that the media has totally blown things out of proportion and you look at the actual chance of getting the swine flu and then I realize that I shouldn't be concerned.

Re: Anyone else worried about the swine flu?
Well, it certainly gives me pause, but no, overall I'm not *worried* and I only live a couple of miles from SFP.
Evidently, all the students had MILD flu-like symptoms. I'll just wash my hands when I come home and go about my business. What else can you do?
If I were to be that worried, I would not ever get behind the wheel of my car...which is a lot more dangerous!

I am worried and concern for my DS catching it. You never want your child or anyone sick but all I can do is try my best to wash his hands and mine and hope for the best. I alive 5 minutes away from Saint Fransis Prep

Re: Anyone else worried about the swine flu?
To some extent - yes, of course, I don't want DS to get sick nor DH and I. But, from what I have read it doesn't seem to be that horrible here - no one has died or even been hospitalied from what I have read it is just like the regular flu - which, during flu season - a lot more than 8 people in NY have! So, while I am worried, I am trying to keep it in perspective

Re: Anyone else worried about the swine flu?
I'm paying attention, but not yet worried. If it becomes a bigger issue, if outbreaks become common on LI or NYC, or if specific warnings come out I'll keep DD out of the classes we go to and away from other kids for a while.
Otherwise we just wash our hands, use the grocery cart cover and continue to be mindful.

Re: Anyone else worried about the swine flu?
At this point, no. I'll probably be a little more cautious with hand washing for both of us, but it's not at a level that really frightens me yet.
Not a good thing at all, and I will follow the news on this, but there always seems to be some health concern or another. Can't worry too much and stop living.

Re: Anyone else worried about the swine flu?
Absolutely! For myself, DH and DC's as I teach in a public school. Over 125 kids are in and out of my classroom on any given day.
There was a case of MRSA at my school the Wednesday before Easter break.
When did I find out about it? This past Thursday's faculty meeting TWO WEEKS after the initial outbreak. Administration said, due to the circumstances of the case, they didn't think it warranted emergency contact of the staff and community They claimed areas were disinfected... yeah sure, my classroom floor hasn't been mopped since Sept.
Let's just say the pres. of my union RIPPED into the principal and central administration on how they handled it. Now, this latest outbreak... all schools, large companies, and like agencies, better re-evaluate their procedure for notification.

A little. Especially, since we took DD to the Bronx Zoo yesterday and it was ridiculously crowded. She had a runny nose today! I hope I am just being a paranoid mom!

Re: Anyone else worried about the swine flu?
Eh. I will make sure to wash my hands, as usual, but also to change my clothes and throw them in the wash when I get home since I am a teacher and lord knows what the kids have. But other than that, nah, not anymore worried than during normal flu season.

Re: Anyone else worried about the swine flu?
Yes!!!! Especially with all the news about it. They are taking such extreme measures for the flu not to spread.
People in Mexico are wearing masks and they are now screen people on airplanes and making sure they do not have a fever. Pretty friggin scary. We all just have to pay attention to symptoms and if you run a slight fever get yourself to the doc. ASAP!!!!

Re: Anyone else worried about the swine flu?
My in laws are in Mexico right now - Playa del Carmen. They are coming home on Wednesday. DH and I discussed it and to be on the safe side, we're not going to have them over for a week. We're not taking any chances.

I am so worried about this. DS is only 4 weeks old and my husband is a teacher in Queens! I told him to wash his hands before and after each class.

Re: Anyone else worried about the swine flu?
I'm not too concerned at home, but we're going to Cancun a month from tomorrow. That's whats making me worried. DH thinks I'm overreacting and just tells me we;ll deal with it as it gets closer. I'm kinda nervous.

Thats what worries me, infants under 1 can't take the antivirals they have to combat the virus.

Re: Anyone else worried about the swine flu?
I really feel like the media is REALLY blowing this out of proportion. I mean, I was watching the news earlier and they showed a map with the whole country of Canada highlighted. There are SIX confirmed cases- but hey, it looks better to just highlight the whole damned country.
I have to say I am NOT worried. Considering the *regular* flu kills THOUSANDS every year, I'm not sure why this is making such news other than it has a name. It's been reported that the US cases confirmed are considered very mild. The preventaive measures and treatment are exactly the same as *regular* flu.
I mean even with the reports that the *regular* flu is deadly, there are many people who still choose not to get the flu shot every year- even those with little babies at home who can't be vaccinated. So I figure- keep doing whatever it is you're doing to protect yourselves during flu season and you'll be fine.
