anyone in HR? payroll help please
my dh is working for a real sketchy company. he is getting checks that don't come with stubs for an even amount of money that is approximately what his post tax amount was at his last job (this is a restructured company.0 we have no proof that his employer is paying taxes on him. the checks don't even have the company name on them, but they aren't personal checks either. i am nervous that we are going to get f*cked over. what can we do?

I would ask the person who cuts the checks to provide back up to the salary. You need to make sure that they are sending the correct taxes or else you really will be screwed.

Did he fill out a W-4 when he first started? Tell him to ask the person who cuts the checks to show him a breakdown...if they cannot provide one, that def. raises a red flag. An even amount to me raises a red flag. Either they are not taking out taxes like they are supp to or they are "grossing up".

I am not in HR but I am a tax accountant.
By law, if your DH is an employee and not a "sub-contracter", the employer must provide a paystub that details tax withholding.
It is possible the company is calling him a "sub-contractor" so that they do not have to pay the employer share of the SS/Med tax.
I would ask the company for a YTD paystub and see if the net number ties to the total of the checks received.
