Ideas for upper elementary science experiments/projects?
Anyone have a good idea for an upper elementary science experiment that we use for a science project?
I am going to try google, but I was wondering if anyone on here has anything more interesting to add... perhaps something you have tried and had success with.
Also, it needs to be something QUICK, like not the kind of experiment that takes a week + .. Ours are due soon and I'm in crunch mode!

heart rates are always a big one. young vs old; male vs female
genetics - i.e. eye color in family members
how much weight can certain woods support

oooo these are all good, I especially like the boy vs girl heart rate! Thanks!
Anyone else keep them coming, I'd like to give my students a choice of things!

Do you think your school library has books with different ideas in it? we do at ours...
Here are some things they suggest: (More winning Science Fair Projects Grades 5-7, by Salvatore Tocci)
Why do you need two ears? sound What is potential energy? energy How can you use a battery to make a magnet? electromagnetics which way does wtaer move? diffusion and osmosis why do some things float in water? density how can a penny signal a change? physical and chemical changes what cana penny tell you about radioactivity? why is salt spread on icy roads? propeties of water why is air considered fluid? propeties of air how can you get light to flow? propeties of light what did galileo really drop? gravity and acceleration what else did newton discover? newton's three laws what do all moving objects have? momentum what helps you to digest food? enzymes what do you need to stay healthy? vitamins how high will your geyser soar? heat and pressure how did the egyptians make mummies? desiccants why does food spoil? preservatives
there are more books - let me know if you want more ideas. I find that in our school - most just go to the internet and do something that someone else has done

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR THAT LONG LIST! You have some fun ideas in there!
Since I am in such a crunch, I ended up using this book because it gives experiments that can be done quickly! (hence the title of the book!)
I literally have under 2 weeks to get my class from start to finish with this. Image Attachment(s):
