Is it so bad to ask for a list of benefits when getting a job offer?
I am working with an agency, and want to get a list of benefits in writing. Is it so bad to ask for them?

I don't think so. By the time you get to the job offer stage - you need to know the whole picture.

Benefits are in the same category as salary. You need to know what you are getting "paid".
$50k a year with full medical (no copays or deductibles), company-matching 401(k), free meals on-site, free day-care, unlimited sick time and a company car is worth more than $60k a year with no benefits at all.

Not all all. As a matter of fact, I consider it a bad sign if it's not discussed before an offer is made. If someone doesn't have that information at the ready for interviewees, doesn't say much about their preparedness.
eta:
That's a very important part of a job offer, and could sway a decision. I'm surprised it's not in the offer!

Since this is being done through an agency, its a little tricky. The actual company discussed the benefits with me, but I feel better asking for the benefits in writing...
the agency will ask me WHY i want them-not sure how i should answer that!!

the agency will ask me WHY i want them-not sure how i should answer that!!
you should tell them that it goes hand in hand with the salary. if they offer great benefits and a lower salary you may still want the job even though its not the salary your looking for.
And the agency should NEVER ask why you want any info on a job. That's a really shady thing, and I would be concerned that they don't have your best interest at heart, if they actually ask you that

Agree it's usually part of the offer, but disagree that it is a bad sign that it's not discussed before an offer is made. Benefits and compensation are often discussed after an offer has been made. You're in a better bargaining position then -- you know they want you, and you want to negotiate for what you want. While I agree you should have an idea of salary and a general idea about benefits at an interview, the details are not usually worked out until after the offer is made. There is no room (or any reason) to waste time negotiating over a job you haven't yet been offered.
I would, however, not hesitate to ask for details about the benefits in writing after an offer has been made. You need to know exactly what their "offer" is in order to make a decision about whether or not you want it!

I got the offer-just waiting for the actual offer in writing w/the benefits. I asked for it from the agency, and they were a little rude-like, "werent they already discussed with you"
Which they were, but I want it in writing.
This agency is being a little shady. They asked me not to go on any other interviews since I have an offer..Odd.

Because you need the full picture of salary AND benefits in order to evaluate the offer. It's a pretty basic question -- I don't think they'll make you justify asking. Good luck!
