WWYD (job related)

I interviewed at a firm last summer. they gave me an offer, I politely declined and took a different offer. Unfortunately I was laid off due to lack of work. Would you contact that employer and mention I'm back in the market should they have a need and are still interested? If so, how do I word it in the email/cover letter?

I would. In today's market; there is no shame. I'd send an email & mention due to the economy, etc. that your current position was eliminated and should they still need someone in your area you are available. Can't hurt at all.

I agree. It's business - things change all the time. If they're interested, then great for you. And if they're not, or they don't have any positions available, well you still tried. Either way, at least you tried and could potentially get a new position.

Re: WWYD (job related)

I would! I was in a similar situation a few years ago. I got a few offers at once and had to choose between them. After I accepted one and worked there for awhile I realized I made a big mistake. I hated the job. I went back to one of the original companies and was candid about my situation. They had already filled the position but wouldn't you know a couple of months later they called me for something else - a better position! I say go for it, what do you have to lose ya know? Good luck!

Hells yeah, drop them a line. It might come just a the time when they need someone! Good luck!
Actually, that’s exactly how one of my colleagues came to be here, he interviewed, was offered the role, didn’t take it. His other job didn’t work out, and he contacted us just at the right time! Six weeks later, he was sat in the office with a new job!

Re: WWYD (job related)

Absolutely. You have nothing to lose.

For the folks who said no to this, what's your reasoning?

I feel you need every advantage to finding a job in this market. If you got an offer from another firm then obviously they were interested in you and could be again. Everyone understands that this market is tough and people are being way more aggressive about finding a job. You have to use every advantage.

Re: WWYD (job related)

so I reached out and they were happy I did. They have a part time person leaving in a few weeks (actually she didn't work out and they are placing her with a client with work she is more suited for) and they are pretty sure they want me to fill her spot. Of course there is no guarantee, but I'm soooo glad I sent that email. fingers crossed i get it!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
