WWYD - Job related

I posted awhile back that one of my old company's competitors came to me with an opportunity to work from home for them. This was put on the back burner bc they didn't have the ok to hire anyone and I honestly didn't think it would really happen.

Fast forward to today - they said they are looking to hire someone sooner rather than later - they would let me go into the city 2 days a week - and work 3 from home. I would have someone come in on the days I am home to stay with Jack (a friend of mine who has a son the same age)

I would have to drop him off somewhere the two days I am in the city. Dilemma part one - do I drop him off at someone's house - or do I look for a daycare? At his point he would be almost a year.

The salary is great - it's basically more then some people's full time salaries - and it's only going into the city 2 days a week.

The thing is also - I have gotten so used to being home - and being with him all the time - that the thought just makes me cry (literally - I was crying before and don't even know if I would get the job or not)

I think I know I have to take the job. The company is amazing. The perks are amazing. The people I would be working with are all good friends - and I would be calling on agencies where they are also friends of mine.

I think I just need to hear some encouragement if that's alright!

Congrats, Diana Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

That sounds great! You have to do what you are comfortable with. In some ways daycare might be easier with more consistency for Jack. It might be easier to work from home w/o him and the sitter around. However, I know you would miss him Chat Icon

Either way, Jack is such a happy boy who will adjust- and be proud of his mom!

Congrats again!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: WWYD - Job related

Thanks girls. 3 months ago - I would have jumped on this opportunity - but Jack is just soooo much fun now - that the thought of leaving him makes me sad.

DH would be off in the summer so we really wouldn't need daycare until Sept. (depending on when they would want me to start) and then he would be 14 months. The school I want to start him at over here doesn't accept kids until 18 months. So I would need something until then.

I am being a baby - it's only two days a week....and I sooooooo miss lunches in the city.

I have a similar situation. I work from home 4 days and go into the city 1 day.
They go to an in home daycare every day. On the days that I am home they go for a few hours so that I can get work done.

I think its a great opportunity for you... The company obviously thinks highly of you to make that knd of offer.

Your DS will adjust - And so will you once you find your groove.

Good Luck!!

Re: WWYD - Job related

How many hours would you working from home?

Sounds like a dream job and Im jealous if it makes you feel better?

The money alone is what would make me jump. But it does sound like a Full time job if your working at home as well...Even though your home, you cant have the baby near you.

BUT theres no commute on those days so its a short drive home Chat Icon

It will be ok.

Worse thing that happens is you hate it and quit, but you'll be upset if you dont at least see if you like it ya know?

Good luck!

Re: WWYD - Job related

It would def. be full time from home also. My plan is to have Stacy come to the house the three days a week - from about 1-4ish. The mornings with Jack are so easy - he eats, watches Einstein, then naps. James comes home for lunch - so after lunch is when I really would need the help.

I would still see him that's the important thing.

I am being a huge baby I know. 2 days is nothing - and people would kill for this opportunity. I could never turn it down if it was offered to me - it just would def. take some getting used to.

Re: WWYD - Job related

This opportunity sounds like a "win win" for both you and Jack.

You get to have your "professional" life and have your "home" life with Jack.

It may be a bit hard to adjust to the commute even if just 2x per week but you will see other people/grown ups.

Jack will be exposed to other people/kids/routine (especially in daycare!).

Diana,,,you will have the best of both worlds!! You will get out of the house 2 days a week and then work from home the other 3. While you are home, you will still be able to see Jack and spend time with him. I am sure the $$ will be beneficial for your family, so I say take it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If anything, you always have your RE experience to fall back on!

You are in the perfect situation

Diana, whatever you do you know you have everyones support...

I love love love love my job and the perks.. but I am beyond depressed and heart broken to leave Sofia next week.. My husband is doing everything he possibly can to purchase a business for us so I can be home FAST! In all my years I never thought I would want to be home..

So working 2 days in the city, 3 at home think as a "perk".. When Jack is sick or something god forbid, you are "there" even if your working...
Your lil man still can sense you being around.. Thats how I see it anyway....

hey if you hate it.. you can always quit........Chat Icon

I completely agree with this. Sounds like a good situation for you all around. And it does seem like Jack would have fun at a daycare, esp. at that age because he'll make new buddies, socialize, etc. Congrats on the great offer Chat Icon It's nice to be wanted, isn't it? Chat Icon

Re: WWYD - Job related

I think it sounds likea great position to be in. By September, I think it will be good for him to be in a daycare situation anyway. 3 days a week sounds perfect - and then switch him at 18 months.

I work from home - and I get a LOT done in the mornings - I get up at 6:30-7 for DD's bottle. Then she hangs out, plays or sleeps in my bed while I answer emails and such.

Then we are usually out and about from noon-4 or 5 pm. After she goes to bed at 7, I get a lot of work done too. But I am on an international schedule and don't "need" to be available al day.

But it is definitely doable...I can help setting up the home office if you want... I've learned a few things over the years...

Congrats Diana!! Sounds like a great opportunity.

Here's my two cents...take it! If it doesn't work out you can always quit but if you pass it up you might always have that regret.

Jack is going to be fine - he's a great little boy and will thrive in any situation. Chat Icon

Re: WWYD - Job related

Hi Diana -

It sounds like a fantastic opportunity to me!!

I'd definitely take it.

It will be hard for you at first because you've gotten used to being home with Jack everyday, but you WILL adjust! Jack will too!! He will even thrive!!

If you decide to look into daycare, you know I have a great one right in your area!! FM me if you want more info.

Good luck!!

Try it out. That's my schedule and its good. Going to the city only two days a week is great.

I think the childcard situation though is totally your choice.

Try it, if it doesn't work out then it doesn't work out.

Re: WWYD - Job related

I definitely think you should try it. If you find that your not spending enough time with Jack then just quit. I would pretend like your not getting paid (yeah right!) so that you don't get used to the money and it would be easy to quit.
