how to apply
I have a question about how to apply to school districts to get interviews......everytime I go to a school district website it says that they don't accept paper applications and to go on olas or another website to apply. I have been doing this for a couple of months and I have applied to many, many, jobs on the website but have not heard anything back....does the websites work? or is there something else I should be doing also??
It's getting really frustrating....lol
Thanks!

Re: how to apply
i posted my resume on olas last march...i applied to many openings and i heard nothing until this past september where my principal found me & the other candidates through olas. she emailed me for a pre-screening interview and we went from there. after 3 interviews and 1 demo i was offered (and accepted) the job.
just keep checking your email - someone may send you a notice for an interview. good luck.

Re: how to apply
Baby - yep elem on LI - I never imagined I'd get a job on LI and I thought it would be impossible without connections...some districts do hire from OLAS - many of the other newer teachers at my school were found the same way. hopefully more districts use the service

If you don't mind me asking: What district are you in? You can FM me with the info if you don't feel comfortable.
I just like to have an idea of districts that actually found people from OLAS.
TIA

Re: how to apply
Please don't be offended by this suggestion, but you might want to have someone look over your resume/cover letter. The competition for a teaching position is ridiculously competitive.

Re: how to apply
I got my job through OLAS (Elementary/Intermediate Special Area) and had most of my interviews from OLAS.
The problem with Elementary is that there is such a surplus and district already have leave replacements, teacher's assistants, subs and student teachers who they like. If a job becomes available - they have their applicant pool already. In our SD there were a few 2 month leave replacements and all the teacher asst and other leave replacements applied and interviewed for them.
For everything else, I think OLAS is actually very helpful

Re: how to apply
I got an interview through OLAS, but Im sure its also just a formality to make it look politically correct, that they are participating, interviewing, etc.
I know one special area teacher in a top notch, very hard to get in- sschool district, who barely had an interview, had a very informal conversation and got the job. I was beyond shocked (at this particular district) , but hey "right place at the right time" happens everywhere, maybe it was good timing.
I dont think any method is set in stone.
But I like to be optimistic and think there's something out there for all of us, when the time is right
