Has anyone had their thyroid removed?
How was your recovery? Could you speak/ eat? Where you in a lot of pain?

My friend had hers removed 2 years ago. She recovered really well. Her throat was sore for a few days and I remember that she had a difficult time speaking for a few days also however with that being said she healed much quicker then we would have thought. I honestly don't remember the eating part of it.

Thanks for the info.. My mom is having it done on Wed & is freaking out b/c this is her first surgery. I hear that people always feel better afterwards, like their "old" self....

One of the women in my office had hers removed last month. It was done on Wednesday - she was hoarse on Thursday, back to work on Monday.

I had mine removed 10 years ago...it was actually not bad at all.
I took nothing but some Advil after the surgery and was completely fine in a few days. Only thing that hurt a little was if you had to sneeze but other than that your mom will be fine.

My father just had his done. He was sore for a week and his voice was rough for a bit longer but he had tumors that were almost wrapped around the vocal cords so it was a bad surgery. The Dr told him it was one of the worst he saw. If hers is a straight forward removal she should be fine in a few days.

I had mine removed. I could talk, but my voice was raspy for a few weeks. The recovery wasn't bad, but my neck was very stiff. You never realize just how much you use your neck with everything you do.
I had mine done in 2002. I've heard that they're sometimes doing laser surgery now and the recovery is easier.
