SOOO Frustrated!
I'm losing my mind with the interview process.....I have years of experience as an Administrative Assistant/Customer Service. I quit my last job in Nov b/c I am also attending Grad school on a part time basis and btwn the commute and all the work for the program it became too much to work Full time.
I know I only started looking in the last three weeks but seriously, why bother calling me in for an interview if you are NOT AT ALL considering me for the position.
I feel that because I will be graduating in the next year a lot of employers arent even interested in me. I was on an interview this morning and the only questions that were asked about me were when was I graduating and if I would be willing in the future to move to full time. (this was for a part time position) The guy even said that right now its an employers market. ( what am I suppose to make of that kind of comment?) I did put in a significant amount of time researching the company as well!
What am I doing wrong? Any insight as to what I should do when questioned about the future would be helpful!

Re: SOOO Frustrated!
hmm, I never even thought about doing that. What reason should I use then for why quiting my full time job to go to part time?
Should I still show my undergrad on my resume or remove education all together?

Re: SOOO Frustrated!
What are you going to graduate school for and are you looking for jobs in that field?
That could open up more possibilities.
Another thought is to get on a per diem list or apply for a P/T position in a group home. They seem to always be hiring and from what I've seen, they don't seem to be too picky about who they will hire.
Does your school have any resources/connections for P/T work?

Re: SOOO Frustrated!
I'm going for Accounting... I've been looking for something entry level but havent even gotten any calls. I've already interviewed with Robert Half to see if they had anything and not calls yet. I've been checking the job boards daily at the school as well , jobs both internal/external.
I'm just getting frustrating going on interviews and yet they know/say` that I'm "overqualified" for the position once they meet me.
I'll def take the advice to revise my resume and see if I can find something in group homes.
Thanks for advice!

Re: SOOO Frustrated!
I'd love to know what you are doing to get the interview...I have not had a single call. How are you wording the grad school part? Are you putting it out there as it was too much to handle going to school and working full time...I would put it out there more as due to the time of the course you are taking and the long commute, you were unable to commit to both.

Re: SOOO Frustrated!
I've just been applying like crazy...depending on the field you are looking in I have gotten several interviews for positions I found on Craigslist. (crazy I know and yes there are a bunch of scams but I still get serious inquires)
What sites have you been using to search?
When the topic of why I left previous employment, I always tell them that I was unable to commit to the work load in school and full time employment. All employers are understanding but then always comes the question, "how long before you graduate" I'm always honest, but I think its hurting me more than helping.
I'm just afraid that if I drop the grad school, what explanation do I provide the employer as to why I left my previous place of employment?

with the way the economy is - I am surprised this is even a question
you could always use restructuring or lay offs as a reason

The more I think about it, this would prob be most ideal... I spent last night making a list of local agencies and started applying.
Does anyone have any insight on them? I did an interview with Robert Half/Accountemps but I'm not exactly sure what to expect. Do they just randomly call or do I have to apply to specific jobs on their site?
Thanks everyone for the advice!

Re: SOOO Frustrated!
How funny... at my job we are experiencing the opposite! They like college students because they have a more flex schedule (it is part time too but not in accounting!)
We got TONS of applications, for the way over qualified to the barely qualified. We set up 10 interviews - 1 person called to say the hours wouldn't work and out of the remaining 9,5 - FIVE were no shows!!! No phone calls, nothing! It amazes me.
It may be an employers market but in my opinion, future employees seem to think it's all in their favor.
Good luck in your search... I hope you find a good fit!

Re: SOOO Frustrated!
lol it always made me wonder how people could just not show up for job interviews. Atleast call. At one of my old jobs I remembered that there were several no shows. It amazes me.
Anyways I was offered a position today that I accepted.
Thanks everyone for the advice!
