How much $$ does a Bridesmaid gift Bride & Groom?
Ok, my best friend is getting married on March 6th. I am a Bridesmaid, not MOH (she was my MOH). I have already spent mucho $$ on my dress, shoes, bridal shower etc. DH is like  already because we are newlyweds trying to save ourselves. I didn't have a formal wedding & I'm clueless about somethings.
How much do we give as a wedding gift? Do we give a regular wedding gift (cost of our plates-around $300.00) or less? Gift at all?
DH said we can give $200 & no more. He doesn't really know how crazy weddings are in America though. I don't want to be cheap to my own best friend. I have no idea what to do

How much did your friend give you for your wedding? I'd probably give to them approximately whatever they gave you to be honest.

Honestly, I never go to a wedding and give less than $300. For any of my close friends, I'd give $500, but that is just me.
ETA: it also very much depends on what you can afford to give.

My friends who were BMs gave us approx. $200. I paid for half of their dresses, their hair and makeup and gave them a gift.
If all you can afford to give as a gift is $150-$200, that's fine. I don't think your friend would expect you to bankrupt yourself!

Details of the situation:
I paid for my entire dress & all the alterations, special bra, shoes etc. (near $300). I also gave 200+ for the shower. I gave $$ at her engagement party too. She is paying for our hair the day of.
I have never given less then $300 at any wedding because I know how much LI/NY weddings cost. For close friends I have always given more then $300.
I didn't have a 'wedding' (or a bridal shower, engagement party, bachelorette party etc). I was married in town hall & only DH's brother & my friend were present. Obviously this cost nothing to anybody but DH & I. A few people did give us $$ however not my MOH (wich was fine I just wanted her company on the happiest day of my life)
She did take our wedding photos for us & I am eternally grateful of that.
So it is impossible to compare our weddings. I think we'll give $400 & call it a day! It's not we can't afford it, the problem is DH is a big saver and sometimes cheap. He has no idea what weddings really cost.

I think you have been more than generous so far and $400 would be VERY GENEROUS, since she didn't give you a gift at your own wedding...

jess i honestly think you can give 300. you've shelled out alot of money thus far and covering your plates is more then enough. if you have it to give i would give 400-500 but if i didnt have it i would be giving enough to cover the plates end of story. send michelle my congrats!

I may feel different than most brides but when I got married and I had a long island wedding lol I did not expect my girls to give me an additional gift. They went all out for my shower and gave me wonderful gifts. I felt that it was wrong for me to take their money on our wedding day. Times are hard for some people and if they are willing to spend money for your special day then that's a gift IMO.

If I'm a bridesmaid in the wedding I usually give $500. I know it costs money to be in a bridal party but you agree to be a part of it, KWIM?
