Explanation

Anyone posting on this board that has has had a m/c was there an explanation as to what went wrong? I was just wondering what the different reasonings are. Can the doctor actually find out the cause?

Re: Explanation

I'm pretty sure if you have a D&C done in the hosp. they can test whatever has been removed from your uterus and test it to see what was wrong with it.

Genetic testing is done to find out, I know Kerri (MrsK...can't remember the whole SN) had it done and found out it was Down Syndrome.

unfortunately, not all miscarriages have an explanation, sometimes as annoying as it sounds "it just happens" Chat Icon

Re: Explanation

i had chromosomal testing and it was no extra tissues / chromosomes were found. it was "spontaneous"...so basically there was no good reason...

Re: Explanation

Mine was a blighted ovum..the egg didn't develope and there wasn't even any fetal pole...Normally that means bad egg...but the tests read "female tissue" so I got no answers..

Re: Explanation

Yup... me... maggie already said my name.

I had trisomy 21 which is Down's Syndrome. And now DH and I have to go for genetic testing to see if we are carriers. Which basically increases or decreases our chances of it happening again.

There are all sorts of different things that can come out of genetic testing... they can even find nothing (spontaneous.... I think this could possibly mean something was wrong... but it's not on the genetic information we have mapped out. Basically like a problem that we have not yet learned about or of course it could just be for no reason).

Re: Explanation

There was no reason for my miscarriage either. In some ways it may be better off not knowing to avoid worrying but it can also be frustrating to wonder "why".

Re: Explanation

In my case, I've had 3 miscarriages and 1 chemical. After my 3rd, I requested to have a tissue sample from the D&C to be tested. It was positive for full Trisomy 16. I researched this type of Trisomy and the statistics state that this type of Trisomy is the most common cause of chromosomal miscarriages.
It turns out I would have miscarried regardless because of a couple autoimmune and blood clotting disorders I have. So, there are reasons and explanations for miscarriage. The right Dr. will be able to find out why.

Re: Explanation

I was lucky enough that my OB ordered the genetic testing... turns out that my baby had something called "Triploidy". this is a whole extra set of chromosomes for a total of 69-- it is a fatal chromosomal abnormality- thankfully the risk is not increased for it to happen again- it has given some closure but my heart still hurts.. I am 5 weeks post D&C ...

good thought girls-- our time WILL come
